Varying degrees of you

As an improviser, one asset you always bring to the stage is YOU. In this workshop, we’ll mine this asset and experiment with playing characters we consider both close to and far from ourselves. Through exercises and two-person scenework, we’ll explore how to (1) bring truth to comedy, (2) play with confidence regardless of prior knowledge, and (3) create engaging characters that might resemble a thinly veiled version of ourselves.

About Your Teacher: Sarah Zureick-Brown is an Amherst based writer and performer. Prior to moving to Massachusetts, she taught and coached improv comedy at Highwire Comedy Co. in Atlanta, GA. She’s performed across North America at festivals including the Vancouver International Improv Festival, The Nestival, the New South Comedy Festival, and the Atlanta Improv Festival. Her improv teaching is informed not only by her years of improv training but also by her experiences as an actor, fiction writer, sketch comedian, storyteller, and cemetery tour guide. At Happier Valley Comedy, you can catch her on stage performing with Gluttony and Somewhere in Time.
