Magical Musical Metaphors

Magical Musical Metaphors
An intro to figurative language in improvised lyrics with Misch Whitaker
You've heightened the stakes, the emotions are flowing and you hear the musician begin to play--- now's your big musical improv moment! You start to sing, but - you're out of things to say.
You're a fly in amber. A ship on a windless sea. A hamster on a wheel. In other words: you're stuck.
Fear not, this workshop is the chisel to your resin, the wind to your sails, and a hamster extractor all-in-one.
Discover the magic of using metaphors to transform emotions into compelling lyrics.
Whether you're looking for a simple way to convey a big feeling, or something more complex to challenge your audience, Misch Whitaker’s workshop will have you creating lyrics full of metaphors (and similes) faster than a squirrel can throw an acorn.
Don't keep your lyrics trapped in an old jar. Unstick the lid and let them loose!
With accompaniment by Josh Hornick
Saturday, August 2nd, 1-4pm
Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Musical Improv
or permission from [email protected]
About Your Teacher:
Misch Whitaker has been performing, teaching and directing improv for about 23 years. You can catch her Friday nights at Laugh Boston performing in Dirty Disney, a Catalyst Comedy show that she also directs. She is half of the two person improvised show Breakup! The Musical, and a member of Big Bang Improv. Past improv credits include Boston's Unscripted Musical Project at Catalyst Comedy (2012-2020), ImprovBoston Mainstage (2013-2014) and Improv Asylum Mainstage (2008-2012). Misch also works as a registered nurse and often offers improv workshops specific to healthcare providers. (She's available for inservices, retreats and conferences!) When she's not on stage (or wearing a stethoscope), Misch loves hanging out in trees in her camping hammock, reading books and napping.
