what's your deal?
|
You've probably heard this question a lot in improv class: "What's your deal, your want, your point of view?" This question is even more important and fun to explore in Musical Improv, where your answer becomes a path to the exact song your scene needs. But don't stop there; keep asking that question during the song itself! The choices we've already made in the scene will continue to pay off in our song's structure, lyrics, choreography, and melody. If this is the song we're in, let's make it the fullest, funnest version of that song we can possibly sing! It all comes down to one question... What's your deal?
Saturday, March 1st, 1-4pm
Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Musical Improv
or permission from [email protected]
About Your Teachers:
Jeff Kimball is the Music Director of The Understudies here at HVC, and has been teaching and performing musical improv across the Northeast since sometime in the previous millennium. He has MD'd for a wide variety of resident casts, indie teams, and other shows, in addition to music theatre. He is the co-founder of the Treehouse Collective, an ensemble-based theatre company committed to producing infrequently performed projects. If you play your cards right, you might see him playing banjo and accordion unironically in public.
Scott Braidman is General Manager and Artistic Director of Happier Valley Comedy. Scott started improvising in 2002 with Mission: Improvable at UMass Amherst, and since then he has studied and performed at The iO Theater and One Group Mind in Chicago, The UCB Theatre in New York, and ImprovBoston and Improv Asylum in Boston. He was also an instructor with the ImprovBoston Comedy School. Scott produces and directs Happier Valley Comedy's shows as well as teaching improv classes and performing with many improvised shows, the most impressive of which is called "Being A Dad", and it isn't a real show, it's just actually being a dad, like, all the time. He gets a little better at it each day.
Fine Print!
*Please note that once you make your purchase, your place in the class is NON-REFUNDABLE unless we have 48 hours notice before first class AND we can get someone to fill your spot.
