Vocal Improvisation and Circlesinging:
Saturday, June 15th 1pm - 2:30pm (1.5 hours) Happier Valley Comedy Theater (1 Mill Valley Rd in Hadley) $30 Prerequisite: Completion of The Joy & Ease of Improv 1. No singing experience required! |
CircleSinging is a spontaneous, improvised community singing practice. Developed as an art form by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, it is a musical, creative, playful and communal experience, all rolled into one. Circle leaders and members jointly create songs using patterns, percussive sounds, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, and recognizable words or invented language. Out of the simplest musical idea, we build something beautiful, groovy, transcendent, ephemeral and completely original. The best part is, it’s all made up on the spot. You can expect to sing the entire workshop, taking turns improvising or following the lead of others. You don’t need to be a great singer to enjoy vocal improvisation and CircleSinging; all you need to do is be ready to try something new, play with your voice and to tap into the innate music that you carry in your mind and body.
Note: This is not a theatrical improv workshop! This is an improvised singing workshop open to students of all musical experience levels.
