the joy & ease of improv 3
|
For those interested in studying improv as a performance art form, Improv 3 is when things really start coming together! Our major focus is identifying and holding onto the emotional point of view as an anchor in long form scenework and short form games. Along the way, we deepen our practice of acceptance and agreement to scene partners' offers, the role of vulnerability in improv, the power of silence, and the more subtle flavors of being of service to the scene, your scene partners, and the moment. Everything you learned in Improv 1 and 2 gels together to support you in learning patient, attentive long form scenework in this class. If you're ready to jump into the delicious challenge of improvising through emotional point of view, Improv 3 is here to take you on the next big steps in your improv adventure. Wheeeee!

About your teachers:
Pam Victor is an improv comedian, author, teacher, corporate facilitator, and kind person. She is the founder and Head of Happiness of Happier Valley Comedy, where Pam teaches improv to the best students in the world - that's you! - as well as performing with "Second Saturday's Presents..." and whenever else they let her get onstage. Plus she brings the power of improvisation to the workplace in HVC's professional development programs. TJ Jagodowski, David Pasquesi, and Pam are the co-authors of "Improvisation at the Speed of Life: The TJ and Dave Book." Pam likes you already.
Maddy Benjamin is the Program Manager and Facilitator of Fun at Happier Valley Comedy. She got her start in improv in 2010 with IT: Improvisational Theater at the College of William & Mary, and joined the HVC community in 2017. Maddy is a founding member of "Not In Charge" and "2nd Saturdays Presents," and performs with several HVC casts. You'll also catch her teaching advanced improv classes and Improv 3, hosting the monthly Comedy Quiz Show on WHMP, solving the NYT crossword puzzle, and serving as the unofficial laugh track for any show or class she attends.
*Happier Valley Comedy rents land that was stolen from Indigenous people, including the Pocumtuc and Nipmuc tribes. A land acknowledgement is not appropriate or adequate to address this injustice that continues to harm people today. Therefore, we have instituted an ongoing process of contributing to the preservation of the lands and cultures of Northeastern Indigenous Peoples. All class fees contain an additional $3 to benefit The Nolumbeka Project, a local nonprofit whose mission is dedicated to these goals.
