Virtual Get Your Reps is regular, drop-in style improv practice to fill your improv jones while we're all in social isolation. Given the reality of the moment, Virtual Get Your Reps is one big way we're moving forward with positivity. Yay! Using the wonders of Zoom, each small group of HVC students meets with Pam or Scott who will guide the fun, provide a soupçon of directed feedback, and most importantly, give you time to play! Class size is limited to give you plenty of reps. Pam and Scott aim to be of service to you by giving your improv muscles a work out, providing opportunities for connection with other awesome people, and bringing more laughter to your lives during this bizzaro time in history. experienced improvisers
Prerequisites: Participants must have completed the HVC's Improv 2 (formerly Zen of Improv 2), Pam's Improv Intensive, all levels from another improv comedy school, or 1+ year of onstage performance experience
Take the improv rules you’ve learned, and (lovingly) throw ‘em out the window. What you need lies right in front of you.
In the Joy & Ease of Improv (formerly the Zen of Improv), you'll immerse yourself in a uniquely natural and self-affirming approach to discovery-based, longform improvisation. We’ll focus on being more aware of the scene that’s revealing itself onstage and following where the scene wants to go...while letting go of the need to work so damn hard and “make stuff up.”
Together we'll practice:
*improvising one small step at a time by paying attention acutely
*acceptance of the moment and the agreement to move forward with positivity
*redefining and disempowering failure
*quieting your inner critic
*being of service primarily (and maybe only) to the scene and your scene partner
*focusing on emotional relationship rather than words in a scene
*playing the scene in the moment (rather than in your head)
*performing from a place of ease and joy
Join Pam for the Joy & Ease of Improv.
It’s good for the stage, and it’s good for the soul!

"Pam's workshop fundamentally changed the way I think about improv (and life!). In just 2 days I went from overthinking, always judging myself (and sometimes others), and constantly planning my next move to being comfortable with the unknown and letting things happen and be discovered naturally. ...She gave me permission to be myself, and then helped me realize that I didn't need that permission in the first place. I will remember these two days for a long, long time to come!"
